I haven't ridden at all in about 15 years, and even back then I ended up selling my Cannondale F because there weren't any good trails to ride around here Springfield, MO and the road biking was so good.Ī few years back I bought my son his first good bike, a Trek Marlin 5. I recently got into mountain biking after being out of the bike scene since aboutwhen I was a full-time bike mechanic for a few years. What model Alivio rear derailleur did you use? Any modifications to use it? Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the write up! I just purchased a Marlin 5 and have experienced the gear shifting issue you talked about. I feel like I could get some less desirable parts on a higher end bike as well. Between the spoke creak, fork banging, and rear derailer slap on mine it's literally an orchestra of crap lol. I love the frame styling and hydralic disk brakes but that's about it, I cant even keep these spokes tight for more than a ride or two.
#Suntour xce 28 upgrade
May think about the fork upgrade because the stock one does suck, mine is noisy and very sloppy but I'm just so dissapointed in this bike idk if it's worth the cost. Definitly trying your derailleur upgrades as I cant even use one of my rear gears, never have been able to.įront gears suck the chain up ALL the time tearing up the frame. I too have been very dissapointed in the components on this bike. Thanks for doing the research for me lol. I debated on selling it but since i read this i think i will give that fork upgrade a try. Only thing stock is my fork and yes it sucks ass. And it is also serviceable unlike a lot of the other entry level forks that would come on a bike at this price point. With the lock out though i rerely use it it make longer commutes a bit easier. This is one of the better forks you will find on the entry level mountain bike out there. Great Entry fork so you can get you feet wet.

Aptitude learning websites is heavy so whenever you want to upgrade you save yourself some weight. I've got nearly a thousand miles of hard riding on it and only had it apart and lubed up once.
#Suntour xce 28 free
It handles pretty much anything you can throw at it except any Free Ride or Aggressive Downhill. This is a great fork to start with on your bike if it comes with it. This is the fork that came on my Icom contact Trail 5 26" I like the lockout for hill climbs but it's a pretty stiff shock that I don't feel like I'm getting all the travel out of. Cons Cheap as dirt, poorly designed, snags pileated woodpecker nest rebound, lockout works but that is all.Ĭons gets noisy sviluppo infrastrutturale in inglese about 3 months of riding leaking oil through seals.
